QPCC’s Summer In Queen’s Park WILL go ahead again this year!

Queen’s Park Community Council’s (QPCC) Summer In Queen’s Park programme will be going ahead again this year, offering free activities for local young people and their families.

QPCC initiated the programme last year to help families keep children and young people active, engaged and learning over the school holidays. With the rising cost of living, the Council recognised that many families would struggle to provide necessary developmental opportunities for children and young people and set out to help bridge the gap in partnership with various local and national organisations.

The ideas for the activities came directly from children, young people and their families through the more than 300 responses to the Community Council Children and Young People Survey (Winter 2021)

Fifteen activities were held across July and August, ranging from cooking classes held here in Queen’s Park to many trips taking families as far as Littlehampton on the Seaside trip attended by more than 90 residents. The Community Council also funded other activities facilitated by local organisations such as Affirm Arts, Creative Future, Treasure Box Boxing Club and others.

The Summer in Queen’s Park Programme will run again this year, starting on 26th July with an Indoor Climbing event. Residents must register to participate in the programme, so keep an eye on the Community Council’s social media and website and look out for your copy of the Queen’s Park Voice in the post for more information about how to register. You can also sign up for the Community Council’s monthly e-bulletin to receive email notifications when the programme launches in mid-July.

Last year, one of the most popular events was the Outdoor Cinema, which brought more than 700 residents to Queen’s Park Gardens for the screening of Encanto, Spiderman: no way home and Ghostbuster: Afterlife. Residents also enjoyed popcorn, sweets and other refreshments for a small donation.

The Outdoor Cinema is back again for this year’s Summer in Queen’s Park; even better, you get a chance to help us decide what films are shown! (Deadline 10th July)

Please complete the form below to help us decide; we’ll announce the finalist on our Social Media and in our July e-bulletin, so remember to sign up!
