The Place Committee oversees the Community Council’s policies and projects relating to the environment, open spaces and planning. Including those concerning:
• Queen’s Park Gardens
• Harrow Road Open Space and other open/ green spaces
• Sports and leisure facilities and equipment
• Outdoor play areas
• Air quality, climate and environmental concerns
• Public art
Each year, Councillors with a particular interest or expertise are nominated to join the Place Committee. They work alongside Working Groups to monitor and implement relevant objectives, including those outlined in the Queen’s Park Neighbourhood Plan.
Place Committee Working Groups
Queen’s Park Community Council has several Working Groups comprising Councillors and other residents. These groups have no decision-making powers; their primary role is to raise concerns, strategise and propose actions to address local issues.
Recommendations made by the Air Quality, Climate and Environmental Justice, Planning, and Public and Community Arts Working Groups are reported to the Place Committee for decision-making. While the Place Committee can decide to fund some projects proposed by the Working Groups, some decisions require authorisation at Council Meetings. The Place Committee must also report to Council Meetings about all its decisions.
Place Committee Meetings
There are four Place Committee Meetings annually. All meetings are open to the public to observe, raise concerns or petition the Committee. However, Committee meetings can only make decisions about items on the meeting’s agenda. Residents can write to the Proper Officer (properofficer@queensparkcommunitycouncil.gov.uk) to raise a matter for discussion at the next meeting.
Residents can find notices of meetings on the noticeboard outside the Beethoven Centre and on the Council’s website (below) three days before the meeting.
Minutes are taken of each meeting and made available to the public after its approval as an accurate account at the following meeting of the Committee.
