Every six months QPCC conducts air quality monitoring to establish the pollution levels in the neighbourhood. The Air Quality Working Group leads this project, which sees twenty diffusion tubes mounted at key sites across the community and in a volunteer’s home.

The acrylic diffusion tubes absorb ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from the air produced by motor vehicle exhaust fumes. After one month, the concentration of NO2 absorbed is professionalised analysed. A report is subsequently produced and presented at Place Committee Meetings.

While there have been some improvements in qir quality across the community, there continue to be high levels of nitrogen dioxide in some areas. The pollution reports outside St John’s Church on Harrow Road have consistently exceeded the legal limit. At the same time, reports show Queen’s Park Gardens has the healthiest air quality.
