Casual Vacancy for a Councillor
Queen’s Park Community Council wishes to fill a vacancy that has arisen for a councillor
following the resignation of a previous councillor who moved away from the area.
This represents an exceptional opportunity to represent your local community and help
bring about change. You will need to be prepared to give up a little of your time each week
and will be expected to attend Council and Committee meetings. These take place in the
evenings and are currently held using Zoom although it is expected that physical meetings
will resume during 2021. The Council is keen to remain representative of our diverse
community, and you will have the chance to represent the interests of local people and
influence decisions through the Council’s various working groups.
Councillors have to be 18 years or older and to live in Queen’s Park, or within 3 miles of its
boundary. The role is unpaid, although certain allowances are payable.
If you are interested to find out what is involved, without necessarily making a commitment,
please contact the Acting Proper Officer Lucie Prior using the contact details below.
Prospective candidates are asked to send a one-page written application by 12:00 noon
on Friday 5 March 2021, in two parts:
- About themselves and their connection to the area
- What they feel they could contribute to the governance of Queen’s Park
If more than five applications are received candidates will be invited to a special meeting of
the Council at 18:00 on Wednesday 10 March 2021 to give a short verbal presentation
and answer a few questions. Council will select one candidate to be appointed at the next
meeting of the Council on 17 March 2021.
If fewer than five applications are received candidates will be invited to attend the ordinary
meeting of the Council at 18:00 on Wednesday 17 March 2021 where the same process
will be followed and one candidate appointed on the night.
For an informal discussion, or to submit an application by email or on paper, please
