What do Councillors do?
As a result of two casual vacancies the Community Council is co-opting two enthusiastic and dedicated local people to join its team of Councillors, who represent and advocate for the Community. As a Community Councillor, you will:
- Contribute to the vibrancy of Queen’s Park and make it a better place to live, work and socialise.
- Work with other residents to address local issues.
- Provide Queen’s Park with the financial and social investment it needs to thrive.
- Have a voice and a vote on what the Community Council does.
There are thirteen meetings annually, occurring on Wednesday evenings from 6 pm – 8 pm. These meetings allow Councillors to represent local people’s interests and influence decisions about the Council’s various work areas. Perspective Councillors must be prepared to attend meetings, read (sometimes lengthy) reports, participate in discussions and make decisions that help make a difference!

What is co-option?
Co-option is the process through which Councils appoint new members (or Councillors) to fill a ‘casual vacancy’.
What is a Casual Vacancy?
A casual vacancy arises when a Councillor resigns or ceases to be a member for another reason. When a vacancy occurs, the Council issues a Notice of Casual Vacancy to inform the public and advise about the right to petition for the vacancy to be filled through an election. If no petition is submitted, the Council fills the vacancy by co-option.
What is the co-option process?
Those interested in being co-opted must first complete a short online form (See below)
You will be invited to speak at the Full Council meeting on 19th March 2025 about why you wish to serve as a member of the Council. There will then be a round of questions from the Council before it votes to decide who to appoint. The appointed Councillor will then sign a Declaration of Acceptance of Office and will immediately commence their duties as a Queen’s Park Community Councillor.
Please contact the Proper Officer if you have any questions or need more information.
