QPCC Invites you to celebrate Black History Month with an unforgettable film series that delves deep into the richness and diversity of Black history and culture. This cinematic journey invites you to explore stories of resilience, courage, and the powerful heritage of the Black community.
Begin with Mami Wata, where a small village grapples with the loss of their children and the waning power of their deity. As tensions rise, a fierce battle unfolds to restore faith and reclaim their cultural identity. Then, immerse yourself in the epic tale of The Woman King, which follows the brave all-female warriors of Dahomey in the 1800s, led by the formidable General Nanisca, portrayed by the legendary Viola Davis.
Experience the vibrant energy of Black Joy, a witty and poignant 1977 film that captures the misadventures of a young Guyanese immigrant navigating life in Brixton. From there, dive into the gritty streets of 1980s London with Babylon, a raw and electrifying portrayal of a Black musician’s struggle against racial tension and societal obstacles.
Finally, let The Story of Lovers Rock transport you to the late 70s and 80s, where the soulful sound of “romantic reggae” united communities and provided solace amidst turbulent times.
This is a ‘Colour Me In’ screening series – a project developed by The New Black Film Collective, to fully equip Black exhibitors with tools and knowledge to access affordable titles, venues and resources, in order to be resilient in serving their audiences.

I’m interested in the post about Black History Month but I don’t see any specific dates or venues for the films. I actually saw Mama Wata last year!
