Dear resident,

First, welcome to those of you who are new to this newsletter, which is sent out once a month. Most of our recent sign-ups came from the summer festival in Queen's Park Gardens on August 6. It was joyous to see so many people enjoying themselves in the park on such a glorious day. Thanks to all those who came and talked to us at our stall, joined in our raffle and gave us your emails. It is the goal of Queen's Park Community Council to be in touch with as many local people as possible - telling you what we are doing & listening to your concerns.

Queen's Park in Bloom Winners

Thanks also to all those who entered our front garden competition, the winners of which were announced at the festival in August. We had our highest-ever number of entries this year and are planning to make it an even bigger and better contest in 2017.

The Queen's Park Voice

The Autumn edition of the Queen's Park Voice will be delivered to every home in the ward at the end of next month - we are always looking for new people, writers, stories and ideas to feature so please get in touch if there is something you would like to see published, or if you would like to announce a birth, marriage or a plan to run the London marathon. We rely on volunteers to create the Voice, as well as to deliver it, and we'd love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved.

Citizens Science - Air Pollution Project

Poor air quality has a direct impact upon our health and life expectancy, and has been linked to an increased number of premature deaths each year. We are considering a proposal for attaching low-tech Diffusion Tubes onto lighting columns (Street Lamps) around the Queen’s Park Council Wards from Harrow Road to Kilburn Lane. Diffusion tubes are designed for passive monitoring of gaseous airborne Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2). Similar projects have been conducted in Brent and Kensal Triangle.

If you are interested in joining us to attach diffusion tunes or would like more information about how poor air quality affects our health please email info@queensparkcommunitycouncil.gov.uk

QPCC's Current Major Projects

For anyone who doesn't know, we are a community or parish council made up of 12 elected residents. We are non-party-political and so far we are London's only parish council. Our meetings are open to the public, we also have a website www.queensparkcommunitycouncil.gov.uk and you can contact us by email at info@queensparkcommunitycouncil.gov.uk.

Currently our major projects include the Queen's Park Neighbourhood Plan, which we expect to go out for public consultation early next year, our grants programme aimed at individuals and groups running activities that benefit our local community, our ongoing programme of improvements to Queen's Park Gardens, our calendar of community events, and our newsletter the Queen's Park Voice.

Upcoming Events

Our annual fireworks display will take place on November 5 in Queen's Park Gardens, as usual, with the first rocket blasting off at 6pm. This year is the 10th annual display and it falls on a Saturday - please do come along, and bring your neighbours and family.

Another date for your diaries is December 10, when our annual winter fair will take place in the park, from 2-4pm following a Christmas lunch for over-50s held in St Jude's Hall next door. As well as mince pies, seasonal songs and a visiting mini-farm, this year we are planning a children's lantern parade.

Gardening Sessions in Queen's Park Gardens

...and you can join Queen's Park Community Gardener Ulla in the Gardens every Thursday Morning

Queen's Park Gardens Football Academy

Santander Bike's in Queen's Park Ward

A local resident has created a petition to expand the Santander bike hire scheme to Queen's Park. If you support this idea you can sign the petition on the Westminster City Council website http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/borisbikesqpark/

Today (30th September) is the last day to sign the petition!

We will be back in October with more news.

Best wishes from all 12 of your Queen's Park Community Councillors
