Casual vacancy for a councillor

Queen’s Park Community Council wishes to fill a vacancy that has arisen for a councillor. In one of the Queen’s Park zones at the recent elections, only two candidates were nominated for three places. The council has decided to co-opt a new councillor to bring the total number of councillors to twelve.

This vacancy is not subject to a public election and you do not have to live in the zone that was under-represented.

This represents an exceptional opportunity to represent your local community and help bring about change. You will need to be prepared to give up a little of your time each week and will be expected to attend council meetings. These take place in the evenings and are usually held monthly. You will also have the chance to represent the interests of local people and influence decisions through the council’s various working groups.

Councillors have to be 18 years or older and to live in Queen’s Park, or within 3 miles of its boundary. The role is unpaid, although certain allowances are payable.

If you are interested to find out what is involved, without necessarily making a commitment, please contact the Chief Officer, Kevin Harris, using the contact details below. We would be very pleased to hear from you!

Prospective candidates are asked to send a one-page written application by 12:00 noon on Tuesday 29 May 2018, in two parts:

·      About themselves and their connection to the area

·      What they feel they could contribute to the governance of Queen’s Park.

Applicants will then be invited to a special meeting of Council on Monday 4 June 2018 at 18:30, to give a short presentation and answer a few questions. Council will then take a decision and the successful candidate will be asked to attend the next Council meeting on 20 June 2018.

For an informal discussion, or to submit an application by email or on paper, please contact:
